August 24 2015 | Blog

An undisputed New Orleans attraction is the Mississippi River – best seen - other than from the Creole Queen, of course - via the riverfront. This majestic natural resource has great attractions along it that utilize its beautiful backdrop and nautical possibilities. Visitors could make a whole fun-filled day out of just exploring all the riverfront has to offer. Discover the best things to do in New Orleans on the riverfront – our favorite place in the city!

New Orleans Riverfront Attractions

Creole Queen Cruise – We would be remiss not to include yours truly on this list! Offering unparalleled views of the city, an up-close experience of Port of New Orleans life, plus live entertainment and delicious Creole food, a cruise on the Creole Queen is an unbeatable Mississippi River attraction. Choose between our twice daily Historical Cruise or our nighttime Dinner Jazz Cruise.

Audubon Aquarium and IMAX – Two components of the Audubon Nature experience in New Orleans are the aquarium and IMAX, located right beside each other along the riverfront. Kids and adults will equally enjoy the fascinating marine and tropical life at the aquarium as well as the entertaining and often educational films at the all-encompassing IMAX theater.

Beignets – A special New Orleans activity is combining our favorite pastry, beignets, with soaking in the river. Whether it’s for breakfast or any time, get your beignets to go from Café du Monde and find a bench or patch of grass on the levee to enjoy them while looking out over the river.

Shopping at Riverwalk – The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk offers a great shopping selection for women, men and children alike as well as a food court full of options to satisfy your lunch desires and a respite from the hotter New Orleans days. Just a stone’s throw from the Paddlewheeler Creole Queen, our retail neighbor is located close to downtown hotels and Harrah’s Casino.

Exercise – If you want to burn off those beignet calories while you’re in New Orleans, the riverfront is an excellent place to jog or walk up and down with fantastic views and a crisp river breeze.
